Soul Retrieval
Soul Retrieval is a shamanic healing technique involving the retrieving and/or extracting of soul pieces that are missing. When people undergo severe trauma, parts of the soul can “split off” from the energy body so that they can survive the experience. Temporary soul loss can be a good survival tool for trauma and is a protective device. However, if the soul piece does not return, it can result in the feeling like something is missing or the realization that “I haven’t been the same since … happened.” There are also situations where soul pieces are “given away” or even “taken” by another person while in a relationship.
Whenever a person is not “whole,” problems arise, leading people to look outside themselves to ‘fill-up” with addiction, codependent or abusive relationships, work, chronic illness or, on the flip side, the endless pursuit of spiritual highs.
One of the reasons traditional systems of counseling can take so long to facilitate healing is that the part of the person that was involved in the trauma, the part with the memories or feelings, left. Many of us experienced traumas in childhood that have crippled us emotionally, leading to a strategy of emotional repression. The result of consistent denial is anger and depression. A therapist can work for a long time with a person who is not all “there.” Some people are prescribed drugs to lessen the effects of the symptoms, however, drugs do not heal the cause. When the soul splits off, leaving the person in a weakened, dis-spirited condition, a shaman can assist by forging a link between the material world and the spirit world, serving as a bridge between the two.
Shamans search many realms of reality to find missing soul parts, working to heal them from trauma and return them to the person to be re-integrated with their energy body and soul. Soul parts generally present themselves at the age the trauma occurred and what trauma caused the piece(s) to leave. Usually several soul parts are retrieved during a single session. The shaman will then report to you the images, symbols and impressions seen during the journey.
After the journey, it is important you become acquainted to these facets of your soul. Welcome home each piece, ask what you can do to have them “stay” so they don’t leave again and ask them to help you understand their gifts. As each persons level of “loss” differs, there is no “set” number of sessions that must occur. As several “parts” are recovered in each session, the treatment typically causes a person to feel more “complete", happier and stronger with each visit.
